Bruce & Lisa ESL teachers blog in Costa Rica - Visit a web site where "real" teachers are actually working in Costa Rica. Follow along with Bruce and Lisa while they work and travel here in beautiful Costa Rica. They have gone back to the states now, but their site should still be up.
A letter from a teacher who used to work with us:
To all ESOL teachers thinking of journeying to Costa Rica to work, I would highly recommend working for Whittemore de Costa Rica, S.A., an English Academy based in San Jose. Michael Whittemore, the General Manager, generally accepts experienced applicants only but, unlike some schools here, doesn't mind if you are not North American as long as you are a native speaker with a clear accent. I'm from New Zealand and he was more than happy to accept my application, so if you are British, Aussie or Kiwi, don't hesitate to be in touch with him. Other reasons that I recommend Michael are his passion for his job, at which he is highly skilled (his classes are always graded accurately), and the simple but important fact that he is a very nice, honest and reliable person, which is no small thing in unfamiliar territory. Aside from the above, the job itself offers exceptional opportunities to actually see Costa Rica outside of the capital as Michael offers classes to students at resort locations such as Arenal Volcano, one of the few active volcanoes in the world and a spectacular location. Along with that there is usually accommodation and travel provided at these fabulous locations, and the students are great too. A dream job really, so what are you waiting for! Regrettably, I have to leave Costa Rica due to family illness but otherwise would happily go on working for Whittemore de Costa Rica, S.A. for as long as they would have me.
I offer the above recommendation based on 10 years of ESOL teaching experience internationally and as the former Academic Manager of an ESOL Academy in New Zealand.
